GHCA's Robotics Class - Sentry Bot
Sentrybot was designed to be some what like a security system for our school. Its original design was sort of like a guard dog, in a sense. It will hopefully patrol the halls of the school. It was originally going to have just one platform but since then is has evolved into 2 platforms with the possibility of a third platform. It is going to have a defensive system originally going to be a nerf ball gun but then we later realized that is not a very big threat. So we have upgraded to a airsoft gun that is semi-automatic, but since we modified the safety it is now fully-automatic. Home The robot consists of a motherboard salvaged from a old computer, a 12 volt car battery, lawnmower wheels, plywood, windshield motors, a DC-AC converter, two optical USB mice, a USB hub, a hard drive from the same computer mentioned before, etc. There is also a USB card a Network adaptor, a sonar system, a home made circuit board(pictures available), a bike sprocket, a modified bike chain, wires, and a few erector pieces for grounding. See the photos to understand how this all fits together. The on-board computer, which runs Linux, and homemade circuit board serve the purpose of controling the drive and steering motors, as well as any future devices. The steering motor turns the front wheel, which is also the drive wheel. The two mice and the mice pads are mounted on the back two wheels to provide direction feedback. We will eventually interface the sonar and also add bump sensors so the robot can sense its environment. See our blog for the latest details about our progress with this robot. See the photos page for pictures, diagrams, etc. We hopefully will be uploading our programs soon to the files section. Stay tuned!
